AWAD (African Women, Arts and Development) International Network is a leading international organisation, promoting African women's arts, culture and heritage across Europe. The organisation was founded by Mama 'Toro, following the success of the 1st African Women's Arts Development International Conference in 1994.

AWAD International Network provides a platform for networking, advocacy, information and advice, project management, resource development and training.

Statement from Mama 'Toro MBE, Director

AWAD's mission is to help establish a world where the contribution of African culture and art is at the forefront of global education and awareness.

AWAD aims to become the leading African women's organisation, consulted by mainstream bodies to deliver on their behalf. Through a range of strategies AWAD will ensure sustainable development for grass roots African community groups to have real opportunities that value their experience and which enable them to utilise their culture and artistic knowledge.
