Profile
Chinese Arts Centre promotes, exhibits and commissions Chinese artists and is the national organisation for the promotion of Chinese arts and culture. It was established in 1986 by a group of Chinese artists who were concerned that Chinese art was not being seen in the UK. The primary aim of the centre is to establish an infrastructure to enable Chinese artists and their work to flourish in the UK.
Principal areas of work are: exhibitions, education, advocacy, agency work and providing information, support and guidance to both artists of
Chinese descent and organisations who wish to programme Chinese arts or artists. Chinese Arts Centre (CAC) has forged relationships with key organisations working in its field internationally including the British Council, Shanghai Art Gallery, Centre A in Vancouver and 4A in Australia, and it has started to develop international programmes. While its principal area of work is with British Chinese artists, CAC believes it is important to engage with the Chinese diaspora and artists from mainland China.
Statement from Sarah Champion, Chief Executive Officer
The work and lives of Chinese artists are rarely recognised in Britain. Chinese Arts Centre challenges this on a daily basis; either through education and promotion of excellence or by giving artists of Chinese descent the necessary skills and experience to succeed.
Chinese Arts Centre will continue working with the most innovative and influential artists of Chinese descent from around the world. We will campaign to make sure that British Chinese artists get the opportunities and recognition they deserve while looking to develop our network of partners across the country.
