Profile

Circle of Literary Friends which was established informally in 1944, had its formal structure and constitution adopted in 1979. It is a collective of creative Urdu writers focused on developing talent and promoting Urdu creative writing by means of workshops, poetry performances, cultural festivals, publications, exhibitions, active research, and the establishment of arts and multimedia facilities. The collective is the oldest multicultural organisation promoting Urdu writing in the North West, and since 1994 has placed an emphasis on the support of women and younger Urdu creative writers.

Statement from Walid Shah, Arts Director

Circle provides a creative platform for writers and artists otherwise ignored.

Our vision for the next 10 years is to introduce greater depth, new audiences and newer dimensions into our work, projecting the creativity of our region across the UK and overseas.
