Profile

Dhamak (meaning beats in Urdu)

Dhamak aspires to contribute to community cohesion and support social regeneration through music and performance. Delivering a year round programme of workshops in schools and youth centres, Dhamak develops skills in percussion, sound technology, deejaying, singing and dance, working with diverse groups of young people, always with substantive outcomes in mind. Dhamak helps to put young people’s creativity in the spotlight with regular showcases and performances across the Northwest, and is committed to using the power of music to improve the outlook and aspirations

Statement from David McGinn, Project Manager

Dhamak has been working in East Lancs for over 7 years. Originally managed by More Music, we recently became an independent company, and aspire to become a centre of community arts development in the district. We have roots in the South Asian community in Burnley, and have developed to encompass many western and world music styles within our practice. Our biggest aims are to inspire people with their own ability to create, and bring people and music from diverse communities together.
