Profile
Osun Arts Foundation was established in 1992 with a clear aim to focus on traditional African arts and culture, particularly the
artform of dance.
The organisation's main objective is to develop an awareness of
African arts and culture in the UK and abroad. Since its inception Osun Arts Foundation has worked and performed in theatres, schools, community centres and arts centres in England, Scotland and Wales as well as selected venues in Europe.
The organisation has worked successfully with primary and secondary schools delivering dance, visual art and drumming educational
projects, and storytelling workshops to help in addressing racism issues and bullying.
In 2002 Osun Arts started to produce performances for touring and our current production titled Igbekun is to celebrate the 200 Years of abolition of Slave Trade.
Statement from Oladimeji Adisa, Coordinator
We offer presentations that aim to bring the community closer to
African arts and culture, giving them the opportunity to touch, use
and interact with ceremonial artforms.
Only through this active participation can people start to understand
and fully appreciate the relevance and possibilities of African
culture to present-day Britain.
The participants benefit from gaining insight into cultural forms
otherwise unknown to them, learning new skills and ways of expression and fuelling their interest in, and acceptance of, other cultures.
