Profile
Shisha is the international agency for contemporary South Asian crafts and visual arts, established in 2001 by Alnoor Mitha and Fareda Khan with the support of the North West Arts Board. Shisha is a visionary organisation that has a strong team to deliver its mission of providing professional development for artists and curators through residencies, commissions, exhibitions and publications in partnership with museums and galleries; delivering targeted learning and development initiatives and facilitating networking, advisory and consultancy services.
Shisha promotes cutting edge visual arts and crafts practice and works with artists and makers of South Asian descent based within the UK, their country of origin or within the global Diaspora, who define themselves as professional.
Statement from Fareda Khan, Deputy Director
Shisha is at the vanguard of creative practice; programming landmark projects which have pushed boundaries, opened up critical discourse and challenged perceptions in the current artistic, intercultural and socio-political climate within both local and global contexts. As a diversifying agency and a powerful cultural force, Shisha enables South Asian artistic communities to continue to dream, be inspired and create within a challenging environment.
