Profile

Upasana, a not for profit North West based group, is a cultural experiment in South Asian arts.

It aims to emphasize that traditional is not passe through a series of workshops and classes and serve as a centre for excellence in Bharatanatyam.

Their key objectives are to create original and innovative South Asian dance, collaborate with other dance forms, address contemporary subjects, be a training resource and be an advocate for bringing South Asian dance into mainstream culture.

Statement from Deepa Ganesh, Artistic Director

I would like to share the treasures of Indian classical dance with others through teaching and performing.

My aim is to bring Indian art to the mainstream British audiences and helping them appreciate the subleties of the art, without sacrificing the classical rigor.

This should prove art can really transcend language and culture tying people together with aesthetics and beauty.
