Artist's statement
As a writer, I've had 20 plays produced across radio, theatre and television.
Currently I'm in my dream job - Associate Director, New Writing/New Work at Manchester's Contact Theatre. My first solo play as a director, IRON, by Rona Munro (Working Girls, Contact 2005) won the Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for Best Studio Production.
My new theatre company, Running to Paradise, will present the UK premiere of Pultizer-Prize-winning author Suzan-Lori Parks’ play Venus at the Manchester International Festival as part of the PANDA-MONIUM showcase. As a PANDA-incubated company (Performing Arts Network and Development Agency) we’ll go on to produce a new play, Aztecs, in 2008. Co-Director Mark Distin and I intend to work as much as possible with emerging artists, and to create theatre with killer visuals and words. It might be a seduction: it might be an assault. It won’t be forgotten.
