Artist's statement
At 25 years young, the seed of my career was planted as a freestyle singer in clubs such as Roadhouse, Poonana and The Dancehouse.
I frequently immerse myself in Cuban influences fused with ragga, Hip Hop and Soul. My unique and soulful vocals are a result of maintaining an open mind in the experimentation of music. I constantly strive for non-conformist ways to express myself through music and creativity.
I see creativity as an expression of the soul, and no two expressions are ever the same. To be involved in music is like having a life affirming power.
Current work
Michelle successfully received a grant from Arts Council England to perform her show Rootz of Emotion at the Contact Theatre, Manchester in January 2006.
Michelle is currently working with two gospel groups, Urban Voices and The Manchester Sing Out Choir, whilst also writing songs for a Samba Dance record label. Her work also extends to performing with a World Music Hip Hop collective.
In 2006 she was a backing singer for the Gorillaz live at the Opera House, Manchester.
Michelle also continues to work as a freelance artist teaching vocals, as well as working for organisations such as the Manchester International Festival and Salford University Music and Media Department.
In the near future Michelle aims to develop work in Brazil and the UK, fusing musical styles and concepts of life.
