Artist’s statement

I am a novelist and short-story writer.

I am on the point of finishing my second novel. I want to write more novels experimenting with form and structure. Critics tend to focus on the subject matter employed by Asian novelists, but I think form is just as important. New social and political perspectives will require new forms. I feel that the possibilities the novel offers are infinite, and as yet largely unexplored. This is an exciting time to be a novelist, and an exciting, though difficult, time to be an Asian novelist in Britain.
