Artist's statement

I am the Artistic Director of the Raga Jyoti South Asian Music Ensemble. We perform traditional Indian classical music in ensemble style with a unique combination of South Asian and European musicians.


Selected works

In 2005, Rakesh performed his compositions ‘Eternity’ at The Lowry, Salford. In the past he has composed work for the Millennium Festival and has performed at the Leeds and London Town Halls.

Rakesh conducts an Orchestra with a mix of 25 Indian and European musicians. One of his proudest achievements includes performing Akashganga finest musical composition at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester for the Great Sitar Maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar.

Rakesh is currently working with Milap Festival Trust as a Programming Manager. Rakesh is a Music Teacher at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Manchester since 1999 and specialised singing in devotional and semi classical songs.


Future work

Divinity National Tour from June 2008 by Raga Jyoti South Asian Music Ensemble - new compositions in ensemble style.
